“Selma” the movie documenting The Selma to Montgomery March in 1965 led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be in theaters January 9th.  The movie portrays Dr.  Sullivan and Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson and their daughter Jawana whose home in Selma, Alabama served as the official residence for Dr. King, Ambassador Andrew Young, Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, Dr. Ralph Bunche and other world leaders in the planning of this historic march.

Major historical events occurred in the house which still stands in Selma and is filled with artifacts pertaining to the 1965 voting rights movement.  The museum will allow the public an opportunity to see for the first time a unique piece of American history related to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Jawana Jackson recently quoted on plans for her family’s home to open as a museum  “I am pleased my parents contributions to the voting rights campaign and the house is being recognized to coincide with the museum’s opening in 2015”.

The Jackson Foundation and Museum, Inc. was created by their daughter Jawana Jackson to preserve The Jackson Home and family legacy which is now listed on The National Historical Register, The National Park Service Selma to Montgomery Trail and Alabama Register of History and Landmarks.
